Family rafting on the middle channel - the day on the river.
We often have guests ask about the family rafting program and how the middle channel trip differs from the high adventure main channel trip. So, with much thanks to one of our top family rafting guides Cara, who wrote the piece below, here is a quick overview of your family rafting trip day.
Your family adventure day begins on flat water practising paddling commands and getting oriented with your friendly and professional River Guide. The first rapid of the day is McCoys Chute, or at lower water Initiation. These rapids both pack a mighty punch sure to thrill even the smallest white water enthusiast.
Next we float down Heaven's Half Mile stretch, swimming, playing games in the raft and talking about the natural geography and heritage of the area.
After the flats we run Iron Ring and S-bend rapids, stopping to have a smooth surf and play in S-bend hole.
Just before lunch we soar down Butterfly rapid with a big splash. First we raft it then we head over to shore and give our guests an opportunity to body surf the Butterfly from top to bottom. Don’t be shy our guides swim with you at the front of the pack.
Then it's surf up as we head over to Caterpillar Hole for some rowdy splashes, sure to put a smile on everyone’s face.
At lunch time we spend a peaceful 30 minutes having a picnic style meal in view of the rapids, watching other boaters and swimmers cruise through the rapids.
Next up we take a little detour and walk down the rocks next to the infamous Garvins Chute. Home of the mighty Dragons Tongue waterfall, a scenic whitewater rapid with a beautiful surf and play spot called Dragons Beard.
After a wild surf in Dragon’s Beard we head down the river to the No Name Rapids. Upper No Name meanders around a rock escarpment creating great curling waves to splash all sides of the boat.
Next we prepare to paddle hard for the Lower No Name Rapids. With enthusiasm we charge down this wet and wild rapid full of holes and great splashing waves. Hold on tight this feature is sure to give you a thrill.
For our last rapid of the day we do 360 spins down the beautiful Black Velvet. A smooth and splashy feature to finish our whitewater adventure.
As we float down the river back to base camp we spy large prey birds and beaver dams then jump in for one last swim before our river trip is done and we are back at the RiverRun Whitewater Resort Campground.
